தலிபான் ஜிஹாதிகள் சுஷ்மிதா பானர்ஜி என்ற எழுத்தாளரை, வீட்டுக்குள் நுழைந்து கணவரைக் கட்டி வைத்து விட்டு, வெளியே கொண்டு சென்று சரமாரியாக துப்பாக்கியால் சுட்டு, உடலை மதரஸா அருகில் போட்டுச் சென்றதாக செய்திகள் வந்துள்ளன[1].
ஆப்கானிஸ்தானில் இருந்து தப்பியது” என்ற பெயரில் இவர் எழுதிய நாவல்
சையது பானர்ஜி என்கின்ற சுஷ்மிதா பானர்ஜி, ஜான்பாஸ் கான் என்ற, ஆப்கானிஸ்தான் வியாபாரியைத் திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டு பக்டிகா மாகாணத்தில், கரனா என்று ஊரில் வசித்து வந்தார். “ஆப்கானிஸ்தானில் இருந்து தப்பியது” என்ற பெயரில் இவரது நாவல், திரைப்படமாக 2003ல் எடுக்கப்பட்டது[2]. இந்நாவலை இவர் 18 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்னர் எழுதியிருந்தார்[3]. இவரது மைத்துனரும் கல்கத்தாவில் சில ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டார்[4].

The memoir was made into ‘Escape from Taliban’, a Bollywood film starring Manisha Koirala. The film was touted as a “story of a woman who dares [the] Taliban”. The deceased had recently moved back to Afghanistan to live with her husband, the report said. In an article in Outlook magazine in 1998, she had written that “life was tolerable until the Taliban crackdown in 1993” when the militants ordered her to close a dispensary she was running from her house and “branded me a woman of poor morals”.
