கேரளாவில் பயங்கரவாத செயல்கள் தொடர்ந்து அதிகரிப்பு: கேரளாவில் பெருகி வரும் பயங்கரவாத செயல்களை தடுக்க, பயங்கரவாத தடுப்பு சிறப்பு பிரிவு அமைக்கப்படுகிறது. இதுகுறித்து இரு மாதங்களுக்கு முன் (மே 2010), மாநில டி.ஜி.பி., அனுப்பிய அறிக்கையை அரசு ஏற்றுக் கொண்டது. கேரளாவில், பயங்கரவாத செயல்கள் பெருகி வருகின்றன. இதில் குறிப்பாக,
கோழிக்கோட்டில் வெடிகுண்டு சம்பவம்,
தமிழக விரைவு போக்குவரத்துக் கழக பஸ்,எர்ணாகுளத்தில் எரிப்பு என,
தற்போது கல்லூரி ஆசிரியரின் கையை வெட்டி வீசும் அளவுக்கு நிலைமை மோசமாகி வருகிறது.
சில தினங்களுக்கு முன், கேரளாவில் உள்ள இரு வேறு இடங்களில், பஸ், ரயிலில் வெடிகுண்டு பொருட்கள் இருப்பதை பார்த்து அதிர்ச்சியடைந்த பயணிகள், போலீசாரிடம் தெரிவித்தனர். அவற்றை அங்கு வைத்தவர் யார் என்பது குறித்து, போலீசாருக்கு எவ்வித துப்பும் கிடைக்கவில்லை.
பயங்கரவாத செயல்களை தேசிய விசாரணை ஆணையம் (என்.ஐ.ஏ.,): பயங்கரவாத செயல்கள் மாநிலத்தில் அதிகரிக்கும் நிலையில், இதற்காக உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ள இணை விசாரணை குழு மற்றும் மாநிலத்தில் பயங்கரவாத செயல்களை தேசிய விசாரணை ஆணையம் (என்.ஐ.ஏ.,) விசாரிக்க வேண்டிய நிலையை கருத்தில் கொண்டு, புதிய சிறப்பு பிரிவு அமைக்க வேண்டிய நிலை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.புதிய சிறப்பு பிரிவு அமைக்க வேண்டியதன் அவசியம் குறித்து, மாநில போலீஸ் டி.ஜி.பி.,ஜேக்கப் புன்னூஸ், மூன்று மாதங்களுக்கு முன், அரசுக்கு ஆலோசனை அறிக்கை அளித்தார். பரிசீலித்த மாநில உள்ளாட்சித் துறை, அவரது அறிக்கையை ஏற்க முடிவு செய்துள்ளது.இதுகுறித்து உள்ளாட்சித்துறை, மாநில நிதித் துறையிடம் அனுமதி கோரி உள்ளது. இச்சிறப்பு பிரிவு அமைக்கப்பட்டால், அதன் வசம் விசாரணை, புலனாய்வு மற்றும் நடவடிக்கையை (ஆபரேஷன்) ஒப்படைக்கவும் முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இச்சிறப்பு பிரிவில், கமாண்டோ படையினர் தவிர தற்போது புதிதாக உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ள இந்திய ரிசர்வ் பட்டாலியன் படையினரையும் உட்படுத்த, மாநில போலீஸ் டி.ஜி.பி., அரசுக்கு அளித்துள்ள அறிக்கையில் பரிந்துரைத்துள்ளார்.இச்சிறப்பு பிரிவுக்காக அலுவலகம் துவங்கவும், வாகனங்கள், அதிநவீன தொழில்நுட்ப கருவிகள் வாங்கவும், அரசுக்கு அவர் பரிந்துரைத்தார். இவ்விஷயத்தில் அரசு காலதாமதப்படுத்தி விட்டதாக, புகார் எழுந்துள்ளது.
பயங்கரவாத செயல்பாடுகள் குறித்த விசாரணை குழு செயல்படாமல் முடங்கி கிடப்பது ஏன்? கேரளாவில் பயங்கரவாத செயல்பாடுகள் குறித்து விசாரிக்க, மாநில அரசு நியமித்த இணை விசாரணை குழு செயல்படாமல் முடங்கி கிடப்பதாகவும், இதையடுத்து தான் தற்போது புதிய சிறப்பு பிரிவு துவங்க டி.ஜி.பி., சிபாரிசு செய்துள்ளதாகவும் கருத்து நிலவி வருகிறது. இணை விசாரணை குழுவில் செயல்பட்ட சிறப்பான அதிகாரிகளை என்.ஐ.ஏ., வசம் சென்று விட்டது. மேலும், இக்குழுவின் ஐ.ஜி.,யாக செயல்பட்ட வினோத்குமார், பதவி உயர்வு பெற்று, ஐதராபாத் போலீஸ் அகடமிக்குச் சென்று விட்டார். இதையடுத்து தான், மாநில இணை விசாரணைக் குழு (ஜெ.ஐ.டி.,) முடங்கிப் போனதாகவும் கருத்து நிலவுகிறது. மேலும், கேரளாவில் அதிகரித்து வரும் பயங்கரவாத செயல்களை தடுக்க, போதுமான பயிற்சி பெற்ற போலீசார் களத்தில் இல்லை.
அரசுதுறைகள் வேலைசெய்யாமல் இருப்பது ஏன்? கல்லூரி ஆசிரியர் ஜோசப் கை வெட்டப்பட்ட சம்பவத்தில், அவர் பிரச்னைக்குரிய வினாத்தாள் தயாரித்தபோதே, போலீசார் எச்சரிக்கையுடன் செயல்படவில்லை என்ற புகாரும் எழுந்துள்ளது. தற்போது இப்பிரச்னையில், போலி சிம் கார்டுகள் தயாரித்து வழங்கிய வழக்கும் சேர்ந்து கொண்டுள்ளது.”தற்போது புதியதாக உருவாக்கப்படும், பயங்கரவாத சிறப்பு பிரிவு குறித்து, இரண்டொரு நாளில் முடிவெடுக்கப்படும்’ என, மாநில உள்ளாட்சித் துறை அமைச்சர் கோடியேறி பாலகிருஷ்ணன் தெரிவித்தார். போலீஸ் துறையில் சிறப்பாக செயல்படும் அதிகாரி தான் நியமிக்கப்படுவர். எந்த ரேங்கில் உள்ள அதிகாரி என்பது குறித்து, இன்னமும் தீர்மானிக்கப்படவில்லை. இதுகுறித்து, திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் முதல்வர் தலைமையில், அவசர ஆலோசனைக் கூட்டம் நடக்கும்.அதில், பயங்கரவாத சிறப்பு பிரிவு குறித்து விரிவாக ஆலோசிக்கப்பட்டு முடிவெடுக்கப்படும். இக்கூட்டத்தில் மாநில போலீஸ் டி.ஜி.பி., உட்பட பலர் கலந்து கொள்வர் என, அமைச்சர் பாலகிருஷ்ணன் தெரிவித்தார்.
ரெய்டில் சிக்கியது என்ன? கல்லூரி ஆசிரியரின் கையை வெட்டிய வழக்கில் கைது செய்யப்பட்டவர்களிடம் நடத்திய விசாரணையில், போலீசாருக்கும், மாநில அரசுக்கும் அதிர்ச்சி அளிக்கும் தகவல்கள், ஆவணங்கள் கிடைத்துள்ளன. இதில் முக்கியமாக, ஆசிரியரை தாக்கியதாக சமீபத்தில் பிரபலமாகி வரும் முன்னணி அமைப்பைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் தான் காரணம் என போலீசார் கருதுகின்றனர். இந்த அமைப்பைச் சேர்ந்த பலரது வீடுகளில் போலீசார், “ரெய்டு’ நடத்தினர். நூறுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட வீடுகள், அலுவலகங்களில் நடந்த, “ரெய்டில்’ பல்வேறு ரகசிய தகவல்களை உள்ளடக்கிய ஆவணங்கள், டைரி, “சிடி’க்கள் சிக்கின.அதில், இவ்வமைப்புக்கு ஆட்களை திரட்ட தலா 60 ஆயிரம் ரூபாய் கொடுத்தது முதல், எர்ணாகுளம் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள சோட்டானிக்கரா பகவதி அம்மன் கோவில் பாதுகாப்பு சம்பந்தப்பட்டது என, பல்வேறு தகவல்களும், அதுகுறித ஆவணங்களும் இடம் பெற்றிருந்தன.
ராணுவத்துறை சம்பந்தமாக, பல்வேறு ரகசிய தகவல்களும், “சிடி’க்களில் இருந்தன: நாட்டின் ராணுவத்துறை சம்பந்தமாக, பல்வேறு ரகசிய தகவல்களும், “சிடி’க்களில் இருந்ததை பார்த்து, போலீசார் அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தனர். அவற்றில் இந்திய ராணுவத்தினரின் செயல்பாடுகளை கட்டுப்படுத்துவது குறித்தும், ஆலோசனைகள் இடம் பெற்றிருந்தன. இந்நிலையில், நாட்டின் பாதுகாப்புக்கு அச்சுறுத்தலாக இவ்வமைப்பு செயல்படும் என்ற சந்தேகம் எழுந்துள்ளது. இவற்றிற்கு வெளிநாடுகளில் இருந்து வரும் லட்கணக்கான ரூபாய் குறித்தும், பல தகவல்கள் போலீசாருக்கு கிடைத்துள்ளது. இவ்வழக்கில், புது முன்னணி அமைப்பைச் சேர்ந்த 17 பேரிடம் போலீசார் விசாரிக்கின்றனர். இதில், கல்லூரி ஆசிரியரின் கையை வெட்டிய கும்பலைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களும் அடக்கம். மேலும், போலி முகவரி கொடுத்து, போலி சிம் கார்டுகள் தயாரித்த மூவரையும் போலீசார் கைது செய்துள்ளனர்.
போலி முகவரியில் சிம்கார்டுகள் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன: போதுமான ஆதாரங்களை பெறாமல், குற்றவாளிகள் என சந்தேகிக்கப்படுபவர்களுக்கு, போலி முகவரியில் சிம்கார்டுகள் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. அதாவது முஸ்லீம்களே அத்தகைய கடைகளை வைத்துக் கொண்டு உதவியுள்ளார்கள். இதில், கோதமங்கலம் தனியார் மொபைல் கடை உரிமையாளர் அஜாஸ் (27), ரகசிய மொபைல் கம்பெனி பிரதிநிதிகள் சிஜூ (23) மற்றும் ராஜன் கே.ஜோளி ((25) ஆகியோர், கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளனர். இவ்வழக்கில் சம்பந்தப்பட்டு, தலைமறைவாகியுள்ள கொல்லம் அடுத்த வர்கலாவில் பதுங்கியிருந்த, மூவாற்றுப்புழா பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த சூல்பிகர் என்பவரை போலீசார் கைது செய்தனர். அவருக்கு தான் மேற்கண்ட மூவரும், போலி சிம் கார்டுகள் வழங்கினர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.இவ்வழக்கு தொடர்பாக பலரை போலீசார் தேடி வரும் நிலையில், போலீசார் நடத்திய விசாரணையில், பல தகவல்கள் கிடைத்தன. இதையடுத்து போலீசார், நேற்று முன்தினம், இடுக்கி மாவட்டம் அடிமாலி கிராமத்திலும், தமிழக – கேரள எல்லையை ஒட்டி குமிளி பகுதியில் சிலரது வீடுகளிலும், “ரெய்டு’ நடத்தினர்.அதில், பல முக்கிய ஆவணங்களும், தகவல்களும் கிடைத்துள்ளதாக பத்தனம்திட்டாவில், மாநில போலீஸ் டி.ஜி.பி., ஜேக்கப் புன்னூஸ் தெரிவித்தார். இக்குற்றச் செயல் யாரால், எதற்காக செய்யப்பட்டது என்பது குறித்து, தனிப்படை போலீசார் விசாரித்து வருவதாகவும், இவ்வழக்கில் சம்பந்தப்பட்டது எந்த அமைப்பு, அதன் பெயர் போன்ற விவரங்களை தெரிவிப்பது சரியல்ல என, அவர் மறுத்து விட்டார்.
ராணுவ புலனாய்வுப் பிரிவு விசாரணை : தொடுபுழா நியுமேன் கல்லூரி ஆசிரியர் டி.ஜெ.ஜோசப் என்பவரை தாக்கி, அவரது வலதுகையை வெட்டி எறிந்த சம்பவம் குறித்து விசாரித்த மாநில போலீசாருக்கு, பல அதிர்ச்சி தகவல்கள் கிடைத்தன. அதில், முக்கியமாக ராணுவத்தினரின் செயல்பாடுகள் மற்றும் அவர்களது நடவடிக்கைகளை தடுப்பது குறித்தான, “சிடி’க்கள், குற்றவாளிகள் என சந்தேகிக்கப்படுபவர்களது வீடுகளில், “ரெய்டின்’ போது சிக்கியது.”இக்குறிப்பிட்ட, “சிடி’க்கள் குறித்து ராணுவ புலனாய்வுத் துறை விசாரிக்க வேண்டும்’ என, போலீஸ் டி.ஜி.பி., கோரினார். இதையடுத்து நேற்று, கொச்சி வந்த ராணுவ புலனாய்வுத் துறை அதிகாரிகள், கொச்சி நகர போலீஸ் கமிஷனர் மனோஜ் ஆபரகாமை சந்தித்தனர்.மாநில போலீசார் நடத்திய, “ரெய்டு’ மற்றும் கைப்பற்றிய சில குறிப்பிட்ட, “சிடி’க்கள் குறித்தும் விசாரித்தனர். அதில், குறிப்பாக ராணுவத்தினர் குறித்தும், தலிபான் அமைப்பினர் வழங்கும் தண்டனைகள் மற்றும் தேச விரோத நடவடிக்கைகள் ஆகியவை அடங்கிய, “சிடி’க்களை ஆய்வு செய்து விசாரித்து அறிந்தனர்.
வெடிகுண்டுகள், வெடிக்கச் செய்யும் கருவிகள், பற்ற வைக்கும் திரிகள் முதலியவைக் கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டன: 13-07-2010 (செவ்வாய்) அன்று 20க்கும் மேற்பட்ட பாப்புலர் பிரண்ட் ஆஃப் இன்டியா மற்றும் சோசியல் டெமாக்ரெடிக் பார்ட்டி ஆஃப் இன்டியா அலுவலகங்கள், அந்த இயக்கங்களின் அங்கத்தினர்களின் வீடுகள் மற்ற ரகசிய இடங்கள் போலீஸார் சோதனையிட்டபோது, நாட்டு வெடிகுண்டுகள், ஆயுதங்கள், மற்றும் குற்றஞ்சாட்டப்படக்குடிய ஏற்புடையதாக பல ஆவணங்கள் முதலியவைக் கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டன[1]. இதைத்தவிர, மற்றொரு இடத்தில் 178 டிடோனேட்டர்கள் (வெடிகுண்டுகளை வெடிக்கச் செய்யும் கருவிகள்), ஏழு மீட்டர் ஃபியூஸ் வயர் (வெடிக்குண்டுகளைப் பற்ற வைக்கும் திரிகள்) முதலியவை நென்மன்டா என்ற இடத்திலிருந்து போலீஸார் கைப்பற்றினர்[2]. முந்தைய இடம் கன்னனூர் மாவட்டத்தில் எடக்காடு என்ற இடத்தில் மானக்குப்புரம் என்ற மசூதியின் காலியிடத்தில் அவை கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டதாக போலீஸ் கூறியுள்ளனர்[3]. அதாவது மசூதி அத்தகைய குண்டு தயாரிக்கும் வேலைக்கு உபயோகப் படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.
தீவிரவாத பயிற்சிப் புத்தகங்கள், பிரசுரங்கள்: கேரள மாநிலம், தொடுபுழா நியுமேன் கல்லூரி பேராசிரியர் ஜோசப் என்பவரது வலதுகையை வெட்டிய சம்பவம் குறித்து போலீசார் விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர். இச்சம்பவத்தில் முக்கிய அமைப்பைச் சேர்ந்த[4] சிலர் சம்பந்தப்பட்டிருப்பது விசாரணையில் தெரியவந்தது. இதை அடுத்து, அவ்வமைப்பைச் சேர்ந்த ரனீப் என்பவர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார். அவரது வீட்டில் போலீசார் நடத்திய சோதனையில், சர்ப்ராஸ் நவாஸ் என்பவர் எழுதிய ஜிகாத் என்ற புத்தகம் சிக்கியது. இதில் காஃபிர்களுக்கு எதிராக எப்படி போர் தொடுப்பது, கொல்வது, அவ்வாறு கொல்வது முஸ்லீமின் புனித காரியமாகும் என்றெல்லாம் விளக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன. மேலும், இது தொடர்பான துண்டு பிரசுரங்களும் மற்ற ஆவணங்களும் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டன[5]. தொடர்ந்து அவர் மீதும், நவுஷாத் என்பவர் மீதும் தேச துரோக வழக்கு பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதெல்லாம் தனிச்சுற்றுக்கு ரகசியமாக கொடுக்கப்படும் பிரசுரங்கள் ஆகும்.
தேச துரோக வழக்கு பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது[6]: கோழிக்கோடு மற்றும் பெங்களூரில் நடந்த வெடிகுண்டு சம்பவங்களில் தொடர்புடைய சர்ப்ராஸ் நவாஸ் தான் இப்புத்தகத்தை எழுதியவராகவும் இருக்குமோ என போலீசார் விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர். கல்லூரி ஆசிரியரின் கையை வெட்டிய சம்பவத்தில், ஆலுவா பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த குஞ்சுமோன் என்பவர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு அவர் மீதும் தேச துரோக வழக்கு பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இதுகுறித்து மாநில போலீசார் தயாரித்த விரிவான அறிக்கை, மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சகத்திற்கு அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அறிக்கை குறித்து உள்துறை அமைச்சகம் பரிசீலித்து வருகிறது. அரசியல் காரணங்களுக்காக, குறிப்பாக முஸ்லீம்கள் சம்பந்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதனால், மெதுவாகவே அரசு இயந்திரங்கள் இயங்கி வருகின்றன.
சி.டி.க்களில் பயங்கர காட்சிகள்: மனிதர்கள்– மிருகங்களை கொன்று தீவிரவாத பயிற்சி; கேரளாவில் அல்கொய்தா ஆதரவாளர்கள் 2 பேர் கைது[7]: பாப்புலர் பிரண்ட் நிர்வாகிகள் வீடுகள் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்ட வி.டி.க்கள் மற்றும் முக்கயி வாகனங்கள் குறித்து போலீசார் விசாரணை நடத்தி வருகிறார்கள். கைப் பற்றப்பட்ட சி.டி.க்களில் மனிதர்களை கழுத்தை அறுத்து கொலை செய்யும் காட்சிகள் மற்றும் மிருகங்களை கொன்று தீவிரவாத பயிற்சி அளிப்பது போன்ற காட்சிகள் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளன. அமெரிக்க பெண் ஒருவரின் உடல் உறுப்புகளை வெட்டி ஏறிந்த பின்பு அவரை இரும்பு படுக்கையில் படுக்க வைத்து உயிரோடு எரிப்பதும் சி.டி.யில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளது. ரத்தத்தை உறைய வைக்கும் பயங்கர காட்சிகள் போலீசார் அதிர்ச்சிக்குள்ளாக்கி உள்ளது. இவையெல்லாம் தாலிபன்களின் சிடிக்கள் என்று கருதப்படுகின்றன[8]. இத்தகைய காட்சிகளை மறுபடி மறுபடி பார்க்கும்போது, ஜிஹாதிகளுக்கு மனம் கல்லாகி, மக்களை கொல்லும் அளவிற்குத் தயார்படுத்திக் கொள்ள ஏதுவாகிறது என்று தாலிபன்கள் குஊறியுள்ளது இங்கு நோக்கத்தக்கது. இரானிலும் இத்தகைய வீடியோக்கள் மூளைசலவைக்கு உபயோகப்படுத்தப்பட்டன.
கைது-செய்யப்பட்ட-கமர்ருதீன்-சஜீவ்
தலிபான்களிடம் தீவிரவாதபயிற்சி பெற்ற தீவிரவாதிகள்: இதையடுத்து நேற்று இரவு முதல் விடிய விடிய போலீசார் கேரளாவில் பல இடங்களில் அல்கொய்தா மற்றும் தலிபான் ஆதரவாளர்கள் வீடுகளில் புகுந்து சோதனை நடத்தினர். ஆலப்புலா, மூவாற்று பிழை, ஆலுவா, எர்ணாகுளம் உள்பட முக்கிய பல இடங்களில் நடத்திய சோதனையில் அல்கொய்தா ஆதரவாளர்கள் மற்றும் பாப்புலர் பிரண்ட் நிர்வாகிகள் வீடுகளில் இருந்தும் ஏராளமான சி.டி.க்கள் தீவிரவாத செயல்கள் அடங்கிய புஸ்தகங்கள் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டன[9]. இது தொடர்பாக ஆழப் புலாவை சேர்ந்த கமர்ருதீன், சஜீவ் ஆகிய 2 பேரையும் போலீசார் கைது செய்துள்ளனர். அவர்களிடம் நடத்திய விசாரணையில் தலிபான்களிடம் தீவிரவாதபயிற்சி பெற்ற உண்மையை கக்கினர். தொடர்ந்து அவர்களிடம் தீவிரவிசாரணை நடத்தி வருகிறது.

கேரளாவில் லஷ்கர் இ தொய்பா தீவிரவாதி சிறையில் அடைப்பு[10]: கோழிக்கோடு, ஜுலை. 24, கேரளாவில் கடந்த சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன்னர் கோழிக்கோடு பகுதியில் இரட்டை குண்டு வெடிப்பு நிகழ்ந்தது. இந்த குண்டு வெடிப்பு தொடர்பாக கோழிக் கோடை சேர்ந்த அப்துல் ஹலீம் என்ற இளைஞர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டான். அவனிடம் நடத்திய விசாரணையில் பாகிஸ்தானின் லஷ்கர் இ தொய்பா தீவிரவாத இயக்கத்துடன் தனக்கு தொடர்பு இருப்பதாக அவன் ஒத்துக் கொண்டான். மேலும் அவன் தென் மாநிலங்களில் இருந்து இளைஞர்களை தேர்ந்தெடுத்து பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு தீவிரவாத பயிற்சிக்கு அனுப்பி உள்ளதாகவும் தெரிவித்தான். சமீபத்தில் காஷ்மீர் மாநில எல்லைப்பகுதியில் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்பட்ட 4 தீவிரவாதிகளும் கேரளாவில் இருந்து இவன் மூலமே பாகிஸ்தான் புறப்பட்டுள்ளனர். விசாரணைக்கு பின்னர் நீதிமன்றத்தில் ஆஜர்படுத்தப்பட்ட அப்துல் ஹலீம் தற்போது சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளான்.

The police seized country-made bombs, weapons and incriminating material in raids at the offices of the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its political arm, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), houses of their activists and suspected locations in different parts of the State on Tuesday – 13-07-2010.

In continuing crackdown on Muslim fanatic groups following the recent barbaric attack by alleged Popular Front of India activists on a Kerala lecturer, police on Monday recovered a sizeable quantity of explosives and other crude weapons from a vacant building in the premises of Manappuram mosque at Edakkad in Kannur district.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Who killed Karkare? The real face of terrorism in India’, the book penned by a retired IPS officer which points an accusing finger at Hindu fundamentalism for the rise in terrorist activities in India, has become a handbook for the Muslim extremist outfits, including the Popular Front of India (PFI).
Within a short span of time after its release, the book that tries to trace the ‘Hinduist links’ behind the death of Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemanth Karkare, has been translated into various Indian languages, including Malayalam. The Malayalam edition of the book was brought out by Thejas Publications the publication wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI).
‘Karkareye Konnatharu,’ the Malayalam edition that was released in February is doing brisk sales, say the publishers.
Top sources in the State Police said that the book was widely read and circulated among PFI activists in the State as well as members of other Muslim extremist outfits. ”The book does not contain any objectionable content and hence we could not interfere in it, ” a senior police officer said.
Sources also said that it was a meeting held in connection with the release of the Tamil edition of ‘Who killed Karkare?’ at Thuckalay in Kanyakumari district on Sunday that led to the spreading of the message about a secret meeting of PFI cadres.
Though no PFI activists were evidently present at the meeting, Intelligence sources feel that it would be the counterparts of the Kerala PFI activists in Tamil Nadu who took part in the meeting. Besides Malayalam, the book has also been translated into Urdu, Kannada, Marathi and Tamil. ”The book could be used as an effective tool to woo more youths towards Muslim extremist ideologies. The Muslim extremist outfits are even resorting to the propaganda that the community will dominate Kerala by 2040,” said a senior police officer.
Penned by S M Mushrif, a former IG in Maharashtra and a senior officer of Karkare, the book goes through a dozen terror strikes in the nation over the past few years and attempts to trace their links with Hindu fundamentalist outfits. It accuses the Intelligence Bureau of playing a role in creating a false propaganda against the Muslim community.
While suggesting a reinvestigation into the death of the ATS chief in the Mumbai terror strike, the former IPS officer also highlights the exposure of the links of Lt. Col. Purohit and other leaders of VHP, RSS and other Sangh Parivar organisations with the Malegaon blast of 2008 by Karkare.
Mushrif also smells a rat in the alleged negligence on the part of the Intelligence Bureau in alerting the agencies concerned, including the Mumbai Police, of the Mumbai terror strike. ”Not only this one, we publish several other books that expose Hindu fundamentalism. The book ‘Karkareye Konnatharu’ also exposes the real face of the IB and hence it is well received,” said PFI leader Nazarudeen Elamaram.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Hotbed of terrorism’ is not the usual label for Kerala. But intelligence gathered by disparate agencies over the last few years suggests the description may not be far off the mark. Confirmation of this came with the horrifying incident of July 4, when a college lecturer’s right hand was chopped off in Moovattupuzha, a town in Eranakulam district.
The attack on T J Joseph was apparently in retaliation for setting a question paper that allegedly hurt Muslim sentiments. Police raids on offices of the Popular Front of India (PFI), whose activists are believed to be behind the attack, have exposed a well-oiled, pan-Islamist network fed by a heady mix of Wahhabism and hawala. Kerala’s deep-rooted Gulf links also come in handy for the PFI.
The revelations of the last two weeks are startling. It includes al-Qaida training tapes, Taliban-style courts that dispense justice according to Shariat law, literature on conversion, explosives enough to kill dozens, and documents indicating unusual interest in the Indian Navy.
Sources say it was one of the PFI’s Taliban-style ‘courts’ in Erattupettah in Kottayam district that decided Joseph’s fate. There are 13 more across Kerala, discreetly exhorting members of the community to stay away from regular courts which are deemed “un-Islamic”. The state police is now taking a fresh look at three murders in Kannur, including that of a police constable. There is some suspicion the killings were ordered by Taliban-style courts.
The policemen who seized the CDs from PFI offices later reported disgust and disbelief at videos showing brutal punishment – such as the severing of limbs – inflicted on “enemies of faith”. Some shots had activists slaughtering animals, apparently to harden them. Kerala’s descent to terror is not recent nor is it without political backing. For decades, both Congress and the Left have been soft on the more radical sections of the Muslim community leaving the moderates at the mercy of the extremists.
Radicalisation of the northern districts began in the 1990s. Fingerprints of the banned al-Umma, which was behind the Coimbatore bombings, were found to be all over the murder of three Hindu youth – in Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur – reportedly for having relations with Muslim women.
In July 1993, reformist Islamic scholar Moulavi Abdul Hassan Chekannur was abducted from his home and slaughtered allegedly by hardliners. That conspiracy is yet to be unravelled.
But perhaps the jihadi network first became really visible in Marad, a sleepy fishing hamlet in Kozhikode district. On May 2, 2003, eight Hindu fishermen were executed on the beach by a crack team, which appeared out of nowhere. It was said to be a revenge attack and the execution betrayed a chillingly high level of training. Fingers were pointed at the National Development Front (NDF), headed among others by P Koya, who was a founding member of SIMI, the banned Students Islamic Movement of India. But the trail went cold when it inexorably led to politicians.
Kerala’s then A K Antony-led government as well as the Left turned down calls for a CBI investigation. A later inquiry by a judicial commission made reference to the alleged role of some leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League, a Congress ally.
The Left, which was in power when the report was tabled in the state assembly, saw political opportunity and swiftly agreed to a CBI probe. But the “independent” central probe agency expressed its unwillingness to take up the case, claiming that the passage of time – three years – meant the destruction of crucial evidence.
Police believe the NDF was never more than a front to accommodate members of the Islamic Sevak Sangh (ISS) – founded by radical cleric-turned-politician Abdul Nasser Madani – after it was proscribed. Even so, it managed to groom a dedicated cadre with jihadi leanings. In November 2006, the NDF merged with like-minded organizations – Manitha Neethi Pasarai of Tamil Nadu and the Karnataka Forum for Dignity – to form the PFI.
Barely two years later, Kerala’s links with the global jihad became clear when four young Malayali men were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kashmir. They were en route to PoK for training. The incident brought some disquieting facts to light, not least the extensive recruitment of Kerala’s young men for jihadi operations. Official estimates say as many as 300 young Malayalis were recruited from different parts of the state.
The state government sought to play it down, but then constituted a special inquiry by an anti-terrorism unit. Once again, the trail led to politicians of various hues and the investigation languished. It was finally handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Bomb attacks across the country in the last decade have had a Malayali imprint. That includes the May 2008 Jaipur blasts, the serial bombings in Bangalore in July 2008 and then in Delhi in September. Yet, there has been little action on the ground.
Police officers accused of links with the organization remain free. Just recently, the Centre ordered an NIA probe into allegations that a senior IPS officer, Tomin J Thachankary, met suspected terrorists during a visit to Qatar in January this year.
The state home department has not initiated action against a former SP accused of sabotaging the arrest of SIMI activists from a camp in Alwaye near Kochi in August 2006. Though 18 hardcore activists took part in the camp, the police – allegedly under instructions from the SP – only arrested five and let off the rest. They would later mastermind the Jaipur and Bangalore blasts.

Kochi: One of the main accused in the attack on a college lecturer, whose right hand was chopped off allegedly by members of a radical group for preparing an inflammatory question paper, was arrested Wednesday.
Yunus was arrested from Palakkad as he was returning from Nagore in Tamil Nadu, police sources said. “We have questioned him and are verifying his statements. His confession has revealed that the investigation is in the right direction,” a source said.
He is facing charges of attempt to murder, harbouring offenders and criminal conspiracy.
Yunus was produced before the Muvattupuzha magistrate court and remanded in 10 days police custody.
Police had a few days ago released a lookout notice against Yunus and two others and had sent teams to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and also coordinated with Intelligence agencies in the southern states and Maharashtra to nab the culprits.
Police had also released sketches of some accused involved in the case. T J Joseph was attacked on July 4 by activists suspected to be that of Popular Front of India for preparing a question paper which allegedly had derogatory references to Prophet Mohammad.
He was returning with his family after Sunday mass that day when the incident took place.

ലത്തീഫിന്റെ അളിയന്റെ തൃശൂരിലുള്ള ഫ്ളാറ്റിലാണു പ്രതികള്ക്കു താമസസൗകര്യമൊരുക്കിയത്. ഇവിടെനിന്നു പ്രതികള് പെരിന്തല്മണ്ണയിലേക്കു പോയത് അബ്ദുള്ലത്തീഫിന്റെ കാറിലാണ്. മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലയില് വളാഞ്ചേരിയില് ബിസിനസുകാരനായ മൊയ്തീന്കുട്ടി ഇവിടെയെത്തിയ പ്രതികള്ക്ക് ഒളിത്താവളവും ആവശ്യത്തിനു പണവും നല്കി. കുട്ടമ്പുഴയിലുളള പോപ്പുലര്ഫ്രണ്ട് പ്രവര്ത്തകനും ഒളിവില് കഴിയുന്നയാളുമായ ഷാജിയുടെ വീട്ടിലെത്തിയപ്പോഴാണു ഷിയാസിനെയും മുഹമ്മദലിയെയും പോലീസ് പിടികൂടിയത്. പോപ്പുലര്ഫ്രണ്ടിന്റെ മൂവാറ്റുപുഴ, കോതമംഗലം, പല്ലാരിമംഗലം ഏരിയ ഭാരവാഹികളാണിവര്. കൈവെട്ടുകേസിലെ പ്രതികളുടെ വീട്ടില് നേരിട്ടെത്തി പണം നല്കുകയായിരുന്നു ഇവര്.
ഇന്നലെ രാവിലെ ആറുമണിയോടെ കോതമംഗലം വെണ്ടുവഴി സ്വദേശി ഷോബിന് എന്ന യുവാവിന്റെ ബൈക്ക് പോലീസ് കൈവെട്ടുസംഭവവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് കസ്റ്റഡിയിലെടുത്തു. ഇയാളെ തേടി പോലീസ് പലവട്ടം വീട്ടിലെത്തിയെങ്കിലും കണ്ടെത്താനായില്ല. കൈവെട്ടിയ സംഘാംഗങ്ങള് സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലുള്ള പോപ്പുലര് ഫ്രണ്ട് പ്രവര്ത്തകരാണെന്നു പോലീസ് കണ്ടെത്തി. കൊല്ലം സ്വദേശികളും സംഘാംഗങ്ങളില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പോപ്പുലര് ഫ്രണ്ടിന്റെ സജീവ പ്രവര്ത്തകനും സംസ്ഥാന കമ്മിറ്റിയംഗവുമായ നാസറാണ് പ്രതികള്ക്ക് ഒളിവില് കഴിയാനുള്ള സൗകര്യം നല്കാന് ലത്തീഫിനോടു നിര്ദേശിച്ചത്. കേസിലെ മുഖ്യപ്രതിയായ നാസര് പോലീസിന്റെ വലയിലായിക്കഴിഞ്ഞതായാണ് അറിയുന്നത്. ഇയാളെ പിടികൂടുന്നതോടെ തീവ്രവാദ പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളുടെ രീതികളും സാമ്പത്തിക സ്രോതസും മനസിലാക്കാന് പോലീസിനു കഴിയും. പോലീസ് ഊര്ജിതമായ അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞു.

Kochi: Five more Popular Front of India (PFI) activists including Shiaz, a close associate of Yunus Ali, who was arrested Wednesday, were taken into custody Thursday in connection with attack on professor T.J. Thomas of Newman college, Thodupuzha.
While three others arrested – Lathif, Ayub and Muhamad Ali hail from Kothamangalam, Moitheen Kutty is from Valancherry.
Meanwhile, Yunus, identified by the police as the mastermind behind the incident was remanded to police custody for 10 days.
The police filed a remand report at the Muvatupuzha court listing Yunus as the fourth accused. The police told the court that Yunus had played a crucial role in the planning, execution and selecting the people.
Yunus in his confession statement had said that seven persons were involved in the incident and that Nazar, for whom the police have issued a look out notice, was the mastermind of the incident.
Shiaz, who was arrested Thursday, hails from Nellimattam, Kothamangalam. He is also the division secretary of the PFI.
